6. What was your least favorite part about your last job?
This is a question that invites vulnerability. Working in childcare is hard! Getting real about the positives and the negatives of their previous role will help you connect with the person that you’re about to hire. This is also an opportunity to be honest about where your team and organization is at as well. Do you need someone who has leadership qualities and can step up to the plate to take on more responsibility within the organization? Or, do you need someone to support your existing leadership team and be able to work well within a structured environment? Perhaps you need someone who is creative and can contribute to developing your curriculum? Asking about their least favorite part of the job can shine some light on the fit of the person and the role you are hiring for. Dig deeper here!
1. Tell me more about yourself!
This is your standard ice breaker question for you to dig a little deeper and learn more about the person that you are interviewing. When asking this question be sure to notice not just what they are saying but how they’re presenting their story. If they’re going through their work experience, does it align with their resume? If there are certain aspects of their resume that you have questions about, like a sizeable gap of time between jobs, this is a great question to uncover why.
daycare interview questions
Your Childcare Teacher should be equipped with the following essentials: Proven work experience as a child care or daycare teacher, certificate in first aid and CPR, and a BS degree in early childhood education. Once vetted for these qualifications, the interview phase will help you evaluate candidates’ skills. You should also be on the lookout for traits that are indicators of success in this job.
Example childcare interview questions: Are your candidates patient? Are they adaptable? Do they enjoy working with children and can they provide basic care for children? Are they able to teach young children of different age groups, from infants to preschoolers? To investigate this further, ask situational questions, or questions that involve a bit of role play. These tell you a great deal about their experience and problem-solving skills. Process-based questions are also useful. Ask candidates to detail a step by step approach to diapering an infant, or soothing a crying child.
What makes you a good fit for this institution?
You might have all of the skills and qualifications necessary for the role, but the interviewer needs to understand if youre a good fit for their specific facility. Different schools and other learning institutions look for different attributes in their prospective teachers. Just like with any other company, they have a unique environment or status quo, and they want individuals who fit them. When answering this question, prove that you conducted a fair amount of research on the institution and understand its goals and overall character.
“When I found this position, I immediately looked up your website. Throughout my research, it became clear that this was a very forward-thinking learning center that even had an on-site therapist for the children. I know Im a perfect fit here because I share many of the same values of early childhood education as you exhibit on both your website and on the grounds. I come with a lot of modern ideas and Im excited about fitting them into your curriculum.”
