Special Agent Customs interview questions

This question can help the interviewer assess your knowledge of customs regulations and procedures. Your answer should demonstrate that you understand how often cargo, vehicles or vessels are inspected by customs officers. You can also use this opportunity to highlight any specific skills you have related to inspecting cargo, vehicles or vessels.

Example: “Yes, I am very comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in several high-pressure environments where I had to multitask and prioritize my work. For example, when I was working as a police officer, I often had to respond to calls for help simultaneously while also prioritizing more urgent situations. I think these experiences have prepared me well for this role.”

Example: “I am fluent in Spanish, which makes me an excellent candidate for this position because I can communicate with foreign travelers who may not speak English. In addition, I have completed several courses on international trade and customs regulations, which has given me a deeper understanding of the process and helped me develop my knowledge of the field.”

Example: “I have a lot of experience in searching vehicles for contraband items. I know that many people smuggle goods across borders because they can make more money selling them than paying taxes on them. To stop this from happening, I would use my training as a customs officer to search every vehicle thoroughly before allowing it to enter the country.”

Example: “I am passionate about protecting our country from dangerous substances and weapons. I also understand that it is important to treat everyone with respect while doing so. Your company has an excellent reputation for upholding these values, which is why I would love to work here. In fact, I have been looking for a job where I can use my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on society.”

Tell me about your ability to work under pressure?

Answer tips

You may say that you thrive under certain types of pressure. Give an example that relates to the type of position applied for. Mention routine pressure you face, such as dealing with deadlines on a regular basis. Try not to use an example where you created the pressure yourself, by waiting too long to start something, or by handling a task irresponsibly at the beginning. For example, working under pressure to meet a customer’s deadline could be a good example, but not if you had waited too long to start the project. Answer samples

“Pressure is actually a catalyst to my work. When there is an imperative deadline, I refocus my energy into my work which in fact, has helped me to produce some of my best works. (Give examples) I guess you can say I thrive under pressure.”
