So if you dont know Cutco or Vector Marketing, theyre a kitchen utensil/marketing company that literally has a pyramid as its logo and is probably the most successful/”legit” MLM company out there. As in, more people are successful selling Cutco products than LulaNo or others, I think in part since their products are a few levels above the cheap garbage most MLMs sell, they actually work, though you can definitely find better knives and knife sets out there.

Vector is known for its really friendly marketing technique to get new recruits, which is essentially “Call them a million times from multiple numbers until they agree to show up for an interview.” They always claim to be calling due to a recommendation from a “friend” who is apparently successful in the company. The name they used for me was someone Ive never heard of before in my life, which is apparently the norm. They set it up like a job offer in the sales department from Vector Marketing but the company you end up “working” for is actually Cutco. Im pretty sure theyre the same company but I bet theres some legal thing that makes them separate.

So yes, I showed up to one of these interviews. It was great. I was young and desperate for a job, but as soon as I showed up and saw 8 other people in the hallway of this tiny office in a strip mall, I knew. This was not a job offer.

The first thing they did was they shuffled all of us in one room, where there was nothing but a folding table with some random objects on it. Then this loud, smiling man comes in with a bag of knives and starts CUTTING THE OBJECTS. “Look how awesome this knife is, Im gonna cut a penny! Im gonna cut this rope! Our products are the best and thats why you should sell them.” It felt like a 2nd graders magic show. After every “trick” he waited as we awkwardly applauded.

Then he played a video which was basically explaining the manufacture and sales process. The video basically justified selling to friends and family members as “practice” for the “larger markets” so even “novice salesmen” can become successful. And then, of course, as your family members recommend you to their friends, your “sales pool” increases. I was taking notes, because I always do at job interviews, no matter how ridiculous, and he called me out and said “Dont sell our secrets, now!” Oh, dont worry hunbot. Your “sales tactics” aint secrets.

At the end of the exhibition, he starts handing out sheets of paper. I think, cool, this must be a pamphlet on the company, maybe stock info or benefits or company message. Because thats what a normal company would do at what I was assuming, at this point, to be some sort of new employee orientation. But no, this is no ordinary company. The sheets of paper were FOR YOU TO WRITE THE NAMES AND PHONE NUMBERS OF ANY PEOPLE YOU KNEW who might be “EXCITED” by this “OPPORTUNITY.” I took the paper and looked at the guy, like, really? He hastily explains: you dont have to fill it out now, but if you want to you can involve your friends and family, too! (The same friends and family youre supposed to sell to?) The saddest part was seeing other people in the room actually fill the damn things out.

Then we all went back into the hallway as the man called us in one by one for a “private interview.” Im already insulted and considering figuring out who wrote my name down so I could slap them, but I decided to stick around for the lolz. While I was waiting, I could see into the main office area where 3 girls were sitting at desks making phone calls. I hate to say it, guys, these girls looked dead af. Their eyes were so lifeless I could swear they were mannequins. I caught the eye of one and she just looked right through me like she was a million miles away. These poor girls.

So its my turn for my “personal interview” and first thing, he gives me a speech on my “friend” who recommended me, who apparently is this super successful Cutco seller and whos name Id never heard before in my life. He tells me I could be in the same position just as quickly! WOW! Then he asks me if I have any questions. Which, okay, weird cuz its supposed to be my interview, but this day has already been a bucket of crazy so why not. So I go down my list of anti-pyramid scheme questions-

(from my notes: “is there an initiation fee?” “No” “Do i have to buy a starter kit, or buy my own product?” “not anymore, we used to but not anymore” “Then how do I acquire the product?” “To sell you have to buy product but you arent required to buy before you sell” right, good save buddy)

-and he stops me about halfway through. He says “Hey, you seem like a smart girl, but a bit skeptical of taking the position, am I right?” I mean, yes obviously, but you asked me if I had questions, so why are you surprised I have questions? He goes “Well, if youre not going to take the sales position we have a receptionist position open that might be perfect for a studious person like you!” Studious? Im just taking notes, buddy, have you never had anyone take notes in an interview before?? Also why are you offering me a different job at a job interview??

I should also note, this office did not have a lobby, much less a reception area. The front door led to a hallway that led to the main office area.

So I ask, out of curiosity, what is this receptionist position? What does it entail, pray tell? Does it, maybe, involve a different office building that actually has a reception area? He explains it with a bunch of business jargon that boiled down to “exclusively outbound calls to potential recruits.” I have a war flashback to those poor girls in the office. I imagine a day full of calling random people, hundreds of times, leaving the same message and begging them to come in to work for Cutco. I imagine getting lists of names and phone numbers from endless lines of “recruits” coming in for “interviews.” I tell him I need a few days to think about it and Id call him.

Then I shook this poor guys hand and I hightailed it out of that place, never to return.

Interview was over zoom, and more focused on character qualities and being a good fit than lots of qualifications. Pay was explained. Job was offered before the interview was over and I was invited for a two day job training.

    1. What is CRM process as Airline Pilot? The systematic and effective use of all available resources to ensure a desirable outcome and completion of the flight.     3. What is the importance of proficiency in several languages for a pilot? A private pilot may limit himself to knowledge of English good enough to understand control towers. Other pilots, being more publicly involved figures by necessity, greatly benefit from knowing more than one language.

    5. What is the 1-2-3 rule? Requirements for filing an alternate. 1-2-3: 1hr before to 1hr after estimated time of arrival, the weather must be forecast to be 2000′ ceiling and 3SM vis.

    8. What is GRID MORA? It’s an altitude derived by Jepp or provided by state authorities. If derived by Jepp, Grid MORA clear all terrain and structures by 1000′ in areas where highest elevations are 5000′ MSL or lower. MORA values clear all terrain and structures by 2000′ in areas where highest elevations are 5001′ MSL or higher. Grid MORA (State) altitude supplied by the State Authority provides 2000′ clearance in mountainous areas and 1000′ in non-mountainous areas. Also… a +/- denote doubtful accuracy but are believed to provide sufficient reference point clearance.

    12. Have you applied anywhere else? Just be honest on this one. If you are in the job hunt, it’s normal to apply to several companies. It’s great to tell them that Cathay is your top choice, but it would be suspect to say Cathay is your only choice.

As the aircraft reaches critical mach the nose of the aircraft tends to pitch downwards due to the flow of air over the wing reaching supersonic speeds producing additional life and center of pressure moving rearward. As the center of pressure moves rearward the elevators become less effective, pushing the aircraft into a potentially unrecoverable dive.

    49. Tell me the biggest factor as far as fuel conservation goes as it relates to a jet engine? TSFC thrust specific fuel consumption which directly inperpolates to power setting and altitude. Higher you climb the less fuel required. Throttle settings also have a say in conservation and relates more to maintenance issues which is why full throttle takeoffs are rarely done.

    Say them that you enjoy flying, and that you believe to be a responsible person. You can also say that you have all skills and strengths needed for this type of work. Alternatively you can refer to an experience that motivated you to pursue the career, such as meeting a pilot when you were young, or having passion for aircraft models since childhood.

    The key is to convince them that you really want the job, and did not apply just because you’ve already spent a small fortune on your studies and training.
