As a homeowner in the area for over 10 years, I’ve tried every NRLP bill payment method available. Below I’ll share the pros and cons of each based on my personal experience.
Pay Online
The quickest and easiest way to pay your NRLP electric bill is through online bill pay on their website. You can make one-time payments each month or set up automatic recurring payments
To use the online payment system, you first need to register your account at NRLP Online Bill Pay. It only takes a few minutes to provide your account details and payment information to create your online profile.
Once registered, you can

NRLP accepts online payments from checking/savings accounts, Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. Paying directly from your bank account is free, while credit and debit cards incur a small fee.
I like the convenience of auto-pay to have my bill amount automatically deducted each month. The online system makes bill payment fast and easy without having to mail checks or drive to the NRLP office.
Pay by Phone
You can also pay your NRLP electric bill over the phone using their automated payment system. To pay by phone, call 828-264-3671.
The phone system will prompt you to enter your 10-digit account number and the payment amount. You can then input your debit/credit card or checking account details.
The main downside to paying by phone is that debit and credit card payments are subject to a fee. Bank account payments are free.
The NRLP payment line is available 24/7. But keep in mind any payments made after 4pm will not post until the next business day.
Overall, the phone payment method allows you to take care of your electric bill any time day or night. But the online options are faster and more convenient in my experience.
Pay by Mail
Sending your payment by mail is another option for paying your NRLP electric bill. Your monthly bill includes a payment stub and mailing address that you can detach and send along with a check or money order.

To ensure your mailed payment arrives on time, allow 7-10 business days for delivery and processing. Missing the due date can result in late fees being added to your account.
While paying by mail works, it’s not as quick and easy as the electronic payment methods. I only use it myself as a backup option when I don’t have internet access.

Office hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-4:30pm. When paying at the office, you can use cash, check, money order, or credit/debit card. Make sure to have your paper bill or account number.
Paying at the office gives you the option to use cash while getting instant confirmation your bill is paid. But for me, making a special trip downtown during business hours is inconvenient compared to paying electronically on my schedule.
Enroll in Auto Pay
To make bill payment fast and hassle-free each month, I recommend setting up automatic payments through the NRLP online system or mobile app.
With auto pay, the total amount due is automatically deducted from your bank account on the due date each month. You don’t have to remember to manually go online or call to pay.
Auto pay can only be established with a checking or savings account. But you can cancel or change it anytime through your online account. I rely on auto pay to keep my electric bill always paid on time.
Avoid Late Fees
NRLP bills must be paid by the due date to avoid a late payment penalty. If your account becomes past due, you’ll incur a late fee of the greater of $10 or 1.5% of the unpaid balance.
Additional late fees are charged each month the account remains unpaid. Make sure to pay your bill on time through auto pay or allow enough mailing time to avoid unnecessary fees.
As you can see, NRLP offers flexible options to pay your electric bill in the way that’s most convenient for you. I personally find the online system the quickest and easiest way to manage payments. But you can choose the method that best fits your needs.

New River Light & Power online payment system accepts echeck, Visa, Mastercard and Discover. NRLP DOES NOT accept credit card payments via email. NEVER send credit card data via email or contact form. The NRLP Connect app, which you can get from Google Play and the App Store, lets you pay your bill and keep an eye on your account from anywhere.
