Tips for Understanding and Reducing Your Water Bill
If you’ve noticed your water usage seems higher than expected, there are a few steps you can take:
-
Check for leaks – Dripping faucets and running toilets can use hundreds of gallons of excess water. Inspect fixtures and pipe connections and repair any leaks.
-
Monitor usage – Pay attention to how much water you use for daily activities like laundering, showering, etc. Look for ways to scale back unnecessary usage.
-
Compare billing cycles – Water use often spikes in summer months. Compare usage between cycles rather than the same month last year.
-
Install efficient fixtures – Newer toilets, faucets and showerheads help conserve water and lower bills over time.
-
Track your usage – Log your water usage from each bill to identify trends and outliers. This can pinpoint times of abnormal use.
-
Check for errors – If your usage seems unusually high, verify the meter reading and check for billing errors by contacting the city.
-
Seek payment assistance – If you’re struggling to pay, inquire about possible utility bill assistance or payment plan options.
Being proactive about monitoring your water usage and payments can help you save money on your East Peoria utility bills. Reach out to the city’s Accounts & Finance department if you need guidance on managing your water service account.
