APLs offer two easy ways to pay your bill:

Pay by Account Number

If paying by account number, be sure to bring your latest power bill or have your account number handy. The account number is located on the top left corner of your Georgia Power bill.

To make a payment, just give your account number to the store’s customer service desk or money services counter. You can only pay with cash or a debit card. Credit cards and checks are not accepted.

Ask the cashier to process the payment through CheckFreePay to ensure same-day posting to your account.

Pay using the CheckOut Barcode

Newer Georgia Power bills have a CheckOut barcode printed on the back. This barcode links directly to your account.

To pay with the barcode, have the APL cashier scan it at the register. Walgreens, Walmart, Dollar General, Kroger, and Family Dollar are just a few of the big stores that accept barcode payments.

Again, payments must be made in cash or debit card to ensure quick processing.

Other Convenient Ways to Pay

In addition to APLs across Georgia, Georgia Power offers payment options to fit any lifestyle:

  • Online – Payments can be made quickly on the Georgia Power website or via the mobile app. Credit cards, debit cards, and bank account information is securely stored for future use.

  • Phone – The Georgia Power automated phone system is available 24/7 at 800-430-7685. Payments can be made using credit/debit cards or bank account information.

  • Mail – The old-fashioned way still works. Fill out the bill’s payment coupon and send it in with a check or money order. Allow 7-10 days for mail payments.

  • Auto-Pay: If you sign up for auto-pay, your bill will be paid for you every month on the due date. Payments are withdrawn from a checking account or credit card.

  • Budget Billing – Avoid billing spikes by enrolling in Budget Billing. Your bill is averaged out over 12 months so you pay a consistent amount each month.

  • Prepaid Service – Pay as you go and avoid a large upfront deposit with PrePay billing. Usage is deducted daily from an account balance you maintain.

  • Cash Payment Kiosks – Georgia Power has teamed up with the payments company United States Payments to install bill pay kiosks across Georgia. Kiosks accept cash payments only.

  • Ways to Pay App – This free app lists retail and grocery stores accepting cash bill payments within 50 miles of your location.

When to Pay Your Bill

Georgia Power bills are due 15 days after the billing date shown on your statement. Any payment received after the due date is considered late and subject to a 1 time 5% late fee.

To avoid late fees, pay your bill early or consider enrolling in auto-pay. If your main payment method is cash, pay a few days before the due date to allow time for processing and posting to your account.

The easiest way to remember your bill’s due date is to pay it around the same time each month, like when you receive your monthly income. Set a reminder on your calendar so it becomes a set routine.

  • Instant – Online, phone, and in-person payments are posted instantly if paid before 8:00 PM.

  • Next Business Day – Mailed payments allow 1 business day for receipt and posting.

  • Longer Delays – Allow 3-5 days for mail payments originating outside Georgia. Payments of large dollar amounts may also take longer to clear and post.
