The hiring process at Broadcom is somewhat arduous, involving several rounds of interviews and a possible assessment. The entire process takes between one to two months, sometimes longer if youre applying for a leadership position.
Submit an application online using Broadcoms career website. Find the position that youre interested in and click “Apply.” From there, you will be asked to upload your resume, cover letter, and answer a few questions. It takes between two to three weeks to hear back.
Depending on the position, Broadcom may also require an applicant to complete an assessment. The assessment is job-specific or behavioral in nature. If everything looks good, you will be invited to either an all-day series of interviews, or one 45-minute interview.
If you are asked to come in for an all-day series, anticipate having anywhere from four to seven 45-minute interviews, each with a different person or group of people, ranging from managers to individual engineers. The entire process should last six to seven hours, including lunch.
If youre applying for a technical position, the interview will be focused almost entirely on technical knowledge and experience. The interviews are rated by current and past employees as medium difficulty. There are usually no puzzles or brain teasers. Typically you have two technical interviews, followed by interviews with a manager and HR.
General questions that Broadcom usually asks each candidate are, “Why do you want to work at Broadcom?” and “Tell us about Broadcom and what we are all about.” Potential technical interview questions may include questions about C and C++, hands on, data structures, and algorithms.

Senior Java Developer Interview
I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Broadcom in Jul 2022
Interview
Got the call from recruitment agency. Then Broadcom manager scheduled first round where he asked 2 coding questions & a few general questions. It took about 70 mins. Then he scheduled another round of discussion saying next will be designing round.Next round was taken by some other person & its was not on system design, Java questions were asked where I messed on 2-3 simple questions. And the discussion was cut short to 30 mins.In one question I knew I am missing something which interviewer could have corrected, but no.So its a red flag in itself.
- Level order printing of tree & other general Java questions.
Technical Writer Interview
I applied online. I interviewed at Broadcom in Jul 2022
Interview
The process went pretty smoothly until the offer came. I got the offer and sent an email asking clarifying questions as shown below. The manager was clearly upset that I asked about WFH for a second time. However, after reading that the job description stated, “ This position is an in-office position; working remotely is not available without corporate direction.” I wanted to verify that it absolutely was not a possibility because the description seemed to suggest corporate could allow for it. She emailed me back, upset about the questions I asked. Within an hour or so I got a call stating that based on the emails I had sent with my questions that they would rescind the offer. The questions seem very routine to me so I’m sure I dodged a bullet not getting this position. 1. Do you write API documentation? I am currently looking to learn more about APIs and I’m enjoying developing my skill-set with API documentation at my current job and want to know if that is possible at Broadcom.2. I know we’ve discussed that this is an entirely in-office position. Is work-from-home completely off the table or would there be room for negotiation for even one day a week?3. I am really looking for a company that values work/life balance. How flexible is the work schedule? Is flex-time an option?4. Do you have somebody I can reach out to about how they feel about work culture within the department?5. I realize I asked this in a previous email but thought I’d tack it onto this one so there aren’t two emails about it. How long would I have to use the $35,000 moving budget? I would be hoping to move my family eventually but I would still need to leave them with a home here in Utah until that is possible. In previous companies I’ve had up to a year to use that budget. Is it the same at Broadcom?
- They had me do a quick writing test.

Matrix organizations are common in the technology industry, and they allow employees to work on multiple projects at once. This question allows you to show your ability to work with others and collaborate effectively. If you have experience working in a matrix organization, explain how it helped you grow as an employee.
Example: “Yes, I am comfortable handling confidential information. In my last role, I was responsible for keeping all client data secure and confidential. I used encryption software on all devices and kept all documents in locked drawers when not in use. I also had an employee sign confidentiality agreements before they were hired, which helped me ensure everyone understood how important it was to protect our clients’ privacy.”
Example: “I would start by creating a software framework for all of the products that Broadcom develops. This will allow me to create common code that can be used in multiple projects. I would also use design patterns so that I could reuse code from previous projects. By doing this, I can ensure that each product has similar features while still being unique.”
Example: “In my last role as an engineer, I was tasked with creating a new system that would allow customers to order food online. My manager wanted me to create a system that could integrate with other systems already in place at the restaurant. This meant I had to work with several other engineers who were experts in different areas of technology. We met regularly to discuss our progress and make sure we were all on the same page. In the end, we created a successful system that allowed customers to order their food online and pick it up at the drive-thru.”
Example: “I’m interested in joining the team at Broadcom because of the innovative work you do. I have been following your progress with 5G technology and am impressed by how quickly you’re developing it. I think my background in software development would be a great asset to the team as we continue to develop new ways to connect people around the world.”
