CalFresh Specific Questions
I applied for CalFresh/SNAP for the first time in LA county. I have to call for my interview now. Any tips on what to say or not to say to maximize benefits?
Currently out of work, living at hotels and staying with friends, and I make infrequent money doing odd jobs for cash.
Also, what are the work/search requirements if someone is receiving unemployment but still technically employed by company but theres no work due to covid? Are they different than EDD? In other words if EDD doesnt require to look document job search since I already have a job, would CALfresh be any different? Would CALfresh send anything to current employer for verification of status or earnings, etc? I rather they didnt know at work I applied for food stamps.
The California application took 10 minutes online, but the notice I received for a phone interview for next Thursday says its 45 minutes. Is the fact that Im having an interview a normal thing in the first place, or is that a cautionary sign they saw something on the app they didnt like? What more could they want that it would require 45 minutes, I thought I gave all the info asked.
I was selected for one of those random calfresh interviews. It took literally all day. I had submitted most of the documents like my bank, neighbor statement & others. However I was getting irritated with when they would ask for additional information. For example I’m a student and provided my financial aid award statement and that wasn’t good enough for them so they had me on a wild goose chase contacting my school and even calling a specific grant line. By this point I just didn’t even want to continue the interview. The calfresh worker stated that the only thing that would happen is I wouldn’t receive calfresh for about a year. Then I received a letter that stated I could be investigated for willful misrepresentation…which kinda shocked me since the worker never stated this. Anyways I guess I’m wondering if anyone just stopped participating in their interview and if anything happened other than having your calfresh revoked.
That evening, I checked my mail and received the paper application of Calfresh. A majority of the application has been filled (from the info I gave to him) and it also asked for the same proofs I submitted to him online. Our deadline to submit the proof is on the 18th.
Here are my questions: Did my caseworker already submit the application for me and the paper application was just for my record to keep? Or was the interview only to help me answer these questions and it was sent to me so I fill out the other remaining blanks, and resend all of the proof documents again?
Hi everyone. I have a couple of Calfresh questions in hopes to find some answers here. I am a college student that moved back home after my classes transitioned to virtual learning. My sister, also a college student, moved back home as well. So its been my mom, my sister, and I living in the same household for the past few months. We currently dont have flowing income and have been relying on our savings and leftover financial aid to pay bills and necessities during shelter-in-place.
I decided to try and apply to Calfresh and see if we qualify for food stamps. I applied on the 8th and got a call from our caseworker two days later. He interviewed me on the spot and then told us what proof we needed to qualify. Proof of financial aid grants, identification, etc. After submitting the documents, he called me a few days later again to reconfirm one of the documents. Before he hung up, he told me “Okay Im going to check one more time to make sure everythings good. If I find anything that I need, Ill call you back.”
