I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Great Wolf Lodge (Traverse City, MI)

Interview

Well put together as far as questions; but many (5). Same questions in a different delivery. Although questions were well thought out, environment was a bit ‘unwelcoming’ and a bit stand-offish. Largely due to the busy nature of the operation and interviewing managers being on the front lines.

So I applied online, I was met with a few phone interview times, scheduled one. The person doing the phone interview blew me off and never said anything before or any contact to reschedule. They then reached out to me a day after. I was met with another time for the phone interview, got canceled by the manager. I then went in for a in person interview and it was pretty quick. Got the job on the spot.

  • When many locations are available for work options, the opportunities can be endless! Many resort brands will have spots and roles all around the world. The interviewer would like to know that you are able and willing, to travel or relocate if an opportunity arises. If you cannot, this should not be a deal breaker. Just state that your circumstances do not allow for you to relocate at this time.

“I see that Great Wolf Lodge has locations in A, B, and C. Although I would love to relocate to any of these resorts, my circumstances do not allow for that at this time. As we know, life can change on a dime, so I am certainly open to discussing this again should my situation be different. For now, I would love to dedicate myself full time to your X location.”

“Relocation and travel would be no problem for me. I am not tied to this city and am willing to visit any suitable options you may have within Great Wolf Lodge.”

If you’ve ever traveled with kids, you know that keeping them engaged — read: distracted — is the key to a great vacation. There might be no organization in the country that knows this truth more than Great Wolf Lodge — a veritable theme park disguised as a hotel that’s consistently ranked by USA Today as America’s Best Family Resort.

“Like any of the world’s great service and hospitality brands, we view our Pack Members as an essential piece of the experiences we create for families,” says Great Wolf Lodge VP of Talent, Rachel O’Connell. “Without amazing people who love what they do, we wouldn’t be able to deliver the unforgettable experiences we’re known for.”

“Sending emails and leaving voicemails just wasn’t working,” O’Connell says. “Candidates want to engage when it’s convenient for them, not just when we’re in the office for the process to start. Emma being available 24/7 and enabling candidates to apply or ask questions right from their phone has really changed how and who we hire.”

As if recruiting wasn’t hard enough, when hospitality brands were forced to temporarily close because of state-imposed shelter-in-place policies, Great Wolf Lodge was impacted like most others. While some recruiting activities slowed down, O’Connell and her team had to jump into action to stay in communication with all of Great Wolf Lodge’s Pack Members and a flood of people applying to their jobs.

“It really simplified what could have been an incredibly complex, stressful situation,” O’Connell says. “It’s so critical to strike a balance between human connection and digital communication, but Emma and Paradox really helped scale our team in a way that helped us ensure we created the experiences Great Wolf Lodge is known for.”

Each lodge is unique based on its geographical location, size, and features offered. Participants will have the opportunity to work at 2-4 different lodges during their program. This type of exposure will be key to accelerating their career with the Great Wolf Lodge brand. Great Wolf Lodge will provide participants with relocation assistance for each new lodge assignment.
