As a Caresource member for over 3 years now, I’ve gotten into a good routine for paying my monthly premiums and any other outstanding balances Since it’s key to pay your health insurance on time to avoid any coverage lapses, I wanted to share how I easily pay my Caresource bill through the online member portal.
Below is my detailed, step-by-step walkthrough on how I login to My CareSource, view my balance, submit payments, and set up autopay – all useful tips for any Caresource member!
Logging In to My CareSource Account
The first step in paying your bill is accessing your My CareSource member account Here’s how I log in whenever I need to pay my balance
-
Go to the Caresource website and click “Member Login” in the top right corner.
-
On the login page, I enter my username and password.
-
If you don’t have an account, you can register with your member ID, birthdate, and ZIP code.
-
Once logged in, I’m taken to the My CareSource dashboard page.
The portal is available 24/7, so I can login to pay my bill anytime it’s convenient for me.
Viewing My Balance
Once I’m logged into My CareSource, I can view my current balance due. Here’s how I check my balance:
-
On the left side, I click “Make a Payment” under the Billing & Payments section.
-
This takes me to the payment page, where I can see my overall balance at the top.
-
It gives me a breakdown of what I owe for premiums, claims, and other charges.
-
I can expand each section to see details and description of the charges.
Reviewing my balance helps me understand exactly what I’m paying for that month. I look out for any weird charges and double check for errors.
Submitting My Payment on My CareSource
Time to actually pay my bill! Here are the steps I take to submit a payment through My CareSource:
-
On the payment page, I first select the amount I want to pay. I can pay the minimum or full balance due.
-
Next, I choose my payment method – credit card, debit card, bank account, etc.
-
I enter my payment details like account number, security code, and billing address.
-
Finally, I review the payment summary and submit.
Once submitted, I get a confirmation page and receipt via email. And just like that, my payment is made!
Paying Through the My CareSource Mobile App
In addition to the website, I also use the My CareSource mobile app to pay when I’m on the go. Here’s how I pay through the app:
-
I tap the “Make a Payment” button on the main menu.
-
I select the amount and payment method like on the website.
-
The app saves my payment information, so submitting the payment only takes a few taps.
-
I get text alerts when my payment is processed.
The mobile app makes paying super fast and easy anytime, anywhere!
Setting Up Recurring Payments on My CareSource
Since I don’t want to forget to pay each month, I set up autopay through My CareSource to have my premium automatically withdrawn on the 1st of every month. Here’s how I set up recurring payments:
-
In My CareSource, I click my name and go to “Account Settings”
-
Under Payments, I select “Recurring Payments”
-
I pick the amount and date for the monthly withdrawals.
-
I enter my credit card or bank account used for autopay.
-
I review and confirm the details to activate autopay.
Now I don’t have to worry about missing a payment! The autopay feature gives me peace of mind that my bill is always paid on time.
Getting Balance Details and Billing Information
To pay my bill, I need to understand what makes up my balance each month. Here are some tips I use:
-
I check the Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) for claim details.
-
I review billing statements to see monthly breakdowns.
-
I call Member Services to request specifics over the phone.
-
I enabled paperless billing to get emails whenever a new EOB or bill is available.
Having all the billing details allows me to double check for errors and clarify any unknown charges.
Avoiding Late Fees and Lapsed Coverage
I make sure to take measures to avoid costly late fees and prevent my coverage from lapsing:
-
I pay my premiums in full by the 1st of each month.
-
I pay any outstanding balances within 30 days of the bill date.
-
I enabled autopay on My CareSource for worry-free payments.
-
I update my contact information so I get billing alerts and statements.
Staying on top of my payments means no surprises or hassles down the road!
When are invoices mailed?
We mail invoices at the start of the month for the coming month. You’ll get your January invoice in early December, or soon after you enroll.
You can choose to get your invoices electronically. Every month, we’ll email or text you when your bill is ready to view in your My CareSource account.
- Always pay your bill in full by the due date shown on it! If we don’t receive your payment by that date, your account is considered past due. This means that your benefits are at risk, and the people who provide you with care may ask for payment at the time of service.
What is the Grace Period?
For three months after you missed a payment, you can make up for it if you get the Advance Premium Tax Credit (APTC).
During the grace period we will:
- Covered service claims should be held during the second and third months of the grace period. We can choose to pay these, but we can also ask for any money we paid during this time back.
- In the second and third months of the grace period, you should turn down prescription drug claims. You have to pay the full price for any prescriptions filled during this time.
- Tell providers that claims could be turned down in the second and third months of the grace period.
There will be 31 calendar days of grace after the due date of your unpaid bill if you do not get APTC or if you bought your policy directly from us (off the exchange).
During your grace period we will:
- We can either wait to file claims for covered services during the grace period or keep the right to get any money we may have paid during this time back.
- Reject prescription drug claims during the grace period.
- Tell providers that claims can be turned down during the grace period.
If you have had a financial hardship or job loss, acting now may lower your payment. Visit enroll. caresource. com or call us at 1-844-539-1733 (TTY: 711) to update your income information.
You can also go to healthcare.gov or call 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 855-889-4325). Updating your information may lower your monthly payment.
