As a student at UC Santa Cruz, I’ve gotten quite good at paying my quarterly tuition and various school fees over the years. Since it’s crucial to pay your UCSC bill on time to avoid late charges or class disenrollment, I wanted to share how I easily pay my UCSC bill online through the student portal.
Below I’ll walk through my detailed process for logging into MyUCSC, understanding my charges, setting up recurring payments, using mobile pay, and more I hope these tips help current and future UCSC Banana Slugs master paying their UCSC bill!
Accessing MyUCSC Student Portal to View My Balance
The first step to paying your tuition and fees is logging into your MyUCSC student portal to view your overall balance for the quarter Here’s how I access my account

Go to my.ucsc.edu and click “MyUCSC for Students”

Enter your Student ID and password to log in

Click on the Finances section and select My Student Billing

This will show your current Account Balance at the top

It also breaks down the specific tuition, campus fees, housing charges, etc.
Checking MyUCSC is the quickest way to see my full balance and exactly what charges it includes. I make sure to log in as soon as my new billing statement is ready.
Understanding Quarterly UCSC Tuition and Fee Breakdowns
Before paying my UCSC bill, it’s important that I understand what makes up my balance each quarter. Here are the key charges I watch for:

Base Tuition – This is the main tuition cost per quarter based on your residency, program, and units.

Campus Fees – Standard fees that all students pay for health services, transit, etc.

Class Fees – Additional fees for materials or equipment for certain courses.

Housing Charges – Rent, utilities, and dining fees if living on campus.

Financial Aid Disbursements – Aid payments that get credited to your account.
Reviewing my billing statement closely prevents any surprise charges once the payment processes!
Paying My UCSC Bill Through MyUCSC
Once I’ve verified my balance, it’s time to actually pay my UCSC bill! Here are the steps I take:

On the My Student Billing page, click on “Make Payment”

Enter the amount you want to pay, either the minimum or full balance.

Select a payment method – I use a linked bank account or credit card.

Confirm the payment details and submit.

I receive a receipt with the payment confirmation number via email.
The online payment process only takes a few minutes. I make sure to pay the minimum or full balance by the deadline to avoid late fees.
Setting Up Recurring Payments on MyUCSC
Since tuition is due each quarter, I enabled recurring payments on MyUCSC to automatically pay my bill every term. Here’s how to set up recurring billing:

Under My Student Billing, click on Payment Profile.

Select Recurring Payments and create a new profile.

Enter the amount and payment frequency, such as the tuition due date every quarter.

Add your preferred payment method to use for the automated payments.

Review and submit the profile to activate it.
With autopay, I don’t have to worry about missing a payment deadline! It provides major peace of mind.
Paying My UCSC Bill on the Mobile App
For quick on-the-go payments, I use the UCSC Mobile app. I can easily pay my tuition with just a few taps. Here’s how it works:

I download the UCSC Mobile app on my iPhone or Android.

I log in using my Student ID and password.

I tap on My Student Billing from the menu.

I review my balance and hit Make Payment.

I enter my credit/debit card and submit.
When I’m out and about and remember to pay my bill last minute, the mobile app has been a total lifesaver!
Avoiding Late Fees and Getting Payment Extensions
I make every effort to avoid late fees, which can be $50 per month. Here are my tips:

I pay my minimum payment a few days before the due date to ensure on-time payment.

I enabled autopay on MyUCSC so I never forget a deadline.

I update my contact info to get billing reminders and notices by email and text.

If needed, I request a payment extension before the deadline through MyUCSC.
Staying on top of my UCSC payments means I prevent headaches from late fees or holds on my account down the road.

You can see your billing statements, look over your tuition and fee charges, and make payments to your student’s UCSC account through the eBill/ePay system.
This video shows you how to create an account on the UCSC eBill/ePay website, find and look over your student UCSC bills, create a payment account, and pay your student account.
Please remember that it is the student’s responsibility to keep an eye on their university account and pay their bills on time. This is true even if the student gets some or all of their college costs paid for by a parent, guardian, or financial aid.
Parents or guardians must receive a payer invitation from their child before they can see their billing information or make payments on their child’s account. For this reason, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) safeguards all students’ privacy and records. The student must agree first before the University can share any information about their account or bills with anyone, not even you.
- If you want to pay some or all of your student’s university bills, they need to send you a payer invitation from their own account. This will let you see their money. Ask your student to use their MyUCSC account to log in to UCSC eBill/ePay and
- send a payer invitation from their account to your email.
- Soon after the payer invitation is sent, you will get an email telling you that your student set up an account for you at UC Santa Cruz.
- Click on the link in the email and enter the parent PIN and password you were sent to access the UCSC eBill/ePay system. Make a new password that you will remember.
- The first email should also be saved in case you need to look it up later.
After logging in, you’ll see the “overview” screen, which shows the balance of your student’s account, a list of charges that are still due, and payment receipts from the past.
- Receipts are also available on the “transactions” screen.
- On the “My Account” screen, you can add a payment account and set up SMS alerts to be notified by text message when a new bill is ready to view.
- To pay your bill online, go to the “make a payment” screen. All of your UCSC billing statements, or bills, can be found on the “statement” screen.
The first bill comes every three months and includes fees for tuition, registration, on-campus housing, and meal plans. The second bill comes every month and includes fees for the health center, the library, printing, other fees, and the monthly payment plan.
All UCSC bills are electronic and can only be found online. This means that neither you nor your student will get a paper bill in the mail.
When a new bill is available, youll receive an email from [email protected].
- Go to UCSC eBill/ePay, click on “My Account,” select “Set up SMS notifications,” and fill out the form that appears. This will let you know when new bills are ready to be sent to you.
- Usually, bills are due about a month after they are sent out. The due date can be found at the top of each bill and in the UCSC eBill/ePay system.
- Pay attention to the fact that bills are only sent out when there are new charges, so there might not be a bill for every month.
- Keep an eye on your email and visit UCSC eBill/ePay at least once a month to make sure you don’t miss any.
If you’d like to split your three-month charges into monthly payments, our Tuition Deferred Payment Plan (TDPP) could work for you.
- At UCSC Student Business Services, you can find out more about this service.
- Go to sbs. usc. edu, go to the top menu and click on “FAQs.” Then, click on “forms” to find out about the Tuition Deferred Payment Plan.
- Please keep in mind that setting up this service costs extra.
Now lets review how to locate and view billing statements. First, log into UCSC eBill/ePay, tap “Statements,” and then tap the bill you would like to review.
Heres a sample of a UCSC bill. This bill is just an example of what your students’ bills might look like. In general, they will be different from this one.
- The “statement date,” which is the date the bill was added to your student account, is at the top of the bill. Below it are the “late/due date,” the “amount due,” which is the balance on your account on the day the bill was made, and finally, the “account number,” which is your student’s UCSC ID number.
- If you scroll down further, you’ll see information about what’s been done with your student account money since the last billing statement was made.
- If you owed money on a bill from before, it will show up at the top.
- Next is “charges and adjustments,” which lists the fees and charges you need to pay, as well as the amounts that have been added to your account and the fees or charges that have been taken away.
- The total amount owed is shown by the “account balance.” If your student is getting financial aid, information about it can be found under “anticipated aid.” “.
- On the second page of each bill, there is a payment coupon that you can print out and send or bring with your payment.
There are times when the amount you need to pay may not match between your most recent bill and the amount shown in the upper right corner of UCSC eBill/ePay. This can make it hard for you to know how much to pay. Here are some examples of that.
If your child has accepted financial aid, the bill may have a balance that is more than what you need to pay.
- There is an account balance and some anticipated aid on this sample bill. Anticipated aid is the amount of financial aid that will be paid to the student’s account closer to the due date.
- Since there haven’t been any financial aid payments yet, you can figure out how much you owe by taking the account balance and subtracting the total amount of aid you expect to get. In this example, the total anticipated aid is $2,920.
- Subtract that amount from the account balance of $5,922. 07, and you’ll have to pay $3,002. 07.
The amount you owe may not match the amount written on your bill if you are waiting for financial aid to be sent to you.
- The payment won’t be taken off the amount on the bill if you make it after the bill has been made, so it may look like you owe more than you do.
- If you set up a monthly payment plan, your bill might not include charges for on-campus housing and meal plans that happen in the future.
- The best way to figure out how much to pay is to go to UCSC eBill/ePay, see the account balance, and take the most recent bill and subtract any expected financial aid.
Now lets review how to set up a payment account so you can pay your students bill.
- To set up a payment account, go to “My Account” and tap “Add a Payment Method.” Then, from the list of payment methods on the left, pick a bank account, a credit card, or a 529 college savings plan.
- Follow the steps to set up your account after entering the information asked for.
- Setting up a payment account is easy. Just go to the “make a payment” screen and use it to pay your bill.
Once you set up your payment account, you can make a payment on your students account.
- Select the method of payment you want to use, fill out the necessary fields, and then send your payment.
- Remember that UCSC will never take money out of your account without your permission in UCSC eBill/ePay.
Some people don’t like the payment accounts that come with UCSC eBill/ePay. You can choose from other ways to pay. International students, parents, and guardians can use FlyWire at ucsc. flywire. com to pay from their home country in their own currency. It’s also possible to send a check or money order to the SBS Financial Service Center, 102 Hahn Student Services, 1156 High Street, Santa Cruz, California, 95064-1007. On the check or money order, write your student’s first and last name and their student ID number.
Another way to pay is to bring cash, a check, or a money order to the SBS Financial Service Center office. Please do not mail cash. To find all these options again visit sbs. ucsc. edu.
Heres some important information to consider when choosing a payment option for UCSC bills.
- You’ll need the account number of a checking or savings account as well as the credit union or bank’s 9-digit routing and transit number before you can set up a bank account as your payment account.
- You can find these numbers ahead of time by using your mobile banking app, getting them from the bottom of a check, or calling your bank and getting them that way.
- Do not use a credit or debit card number or a credit union member number when setting up a bank account to make a payment.
- You will need to log into your 529 savings plan account from the UCSC eBill/ePay site in order to set up a 529 savings plan account as a payment method.
- If you want to make an electronic payment through our site, but your 529 plan doesn’t allow it, please check with your plan administrator first.
When you pick a payment plan for your student’s bill, you should also think about how much the fees are.
- It is free and doesn’t cost you anything to pay with a checking or savings account at a bank or credit union.
- When you pay with a debit card, credit card, or 529 college savings plan, you will have to pay more because of the processing fees that are added to your payment.
- Processing fees are shown to you when you pay. Fees can change at any time, and you can’t get your money back for them, so check the fee amount before you pay.
Here are some tips that can help you and your student avoid issues with bills and payments.
- As soon as possible, have your student send you a payer invitation from UCSC eBill/ePay so you can see their bills and statements.
- Always pay your bills on time to avoid enrollment holds that can make it hard for your students to sign up for classes.
- Keep an eye out for emails and texts telling you about new bills, and mark your calendar with dates when payments are due.
- Keep in mind that charges can show up on a student’s account at any time. Some can take up to 6 months to show up. Because of this, you should check UCSC eBill/ePay at least once a month for new bills and pay any new charges.
- You can keep track of your student’s bills and ease your financial stress by checking your account once a month.
