They are good for lowering your credit limit for non usage which causes you credit score to be affected. Capital one should not be able to change credit lone without consumers requests.
Horrible service. I paid off my card but my available credit still said 0 I called and was told I had to wait another 3 days before my available credit was updated even though the payment posted from my bank account I asked to speak to a supervisor and was hung up on. I called back finally got someone after waiting another 15 minutes and was told they couldnt do anything. Im over capital one and would never recommend getting a card with them. If youre looking to build credit just go through another cc company because this one isnt right.
This was the first time I went on a long trip and my card didn’t get blocked forcing me to make an international call so I went into this review wanting to give a 5 star review. But their first service rep ruined it. 10 minute wait on hold. First rep too incompetent to look up something simple that a car rental deposit from Australia dropped. She had me on hold looking it up for 15 minutes. I think she was ESL. I had to call back. On hold again 10 minutes. Second rep helpful but first rep already ruined my mood with incompetence. Need good people on the phones.
REPORT CAPITAL ONE TO: Consumer Financial Protection Bureau EVERYONE! The Better Business Bureau would be likely better. Capital One ignores all complaints as you can see. How they score higher in the UK is beyond me. Since their score is 1.3 and the minimum star is 1 this means that there real score is 0.3 which is extremely poor. They charge over 30% on some of their credit cards yet their best savings account pays 3.90%. Are you protecting your assets from the coming CBDC surveillance money that can be shut down with the press of a button?
Horrible company I was trying to build my credit put up a $200 deposit made 3 payments in on month of $25 for total of $75 somehow my balance went over my credit limit so they closed my account saying I was not using card according to policy. WTF I would NOT suggest them in any shape form or fashion!!! I know others who went through the same type of situation with Capital One
If your thinking of joining capital one dont. There is a cost of living crisis and still they love to charge £12 charges when you have gone over your balance. They already earn interest off what you have spent. I am disabled have chronic heart failure and still charging me £12 charges. I am letting the prime minister know about this company they prey on vulnerable people who struggle. With that in mind think twice before taking a card out. If you cant afford one dont take it out. As this company loves slapping you with £12 charges. If you read this review capital one stop the 2 cards I have with you. Wont be using them no more cutting them up. You dont understand what the cost of living is like. £12 is a lot of money to find for me. It takes food out of my mouth. All you think about is making money. Shame on you.
Absolutely horrible customer service. You can tell the phone reps are reading from a computer script and are almost robotic, at times even patronizing. No brick and mortar branches within 100 miles of me, so no way to actually visit with a knowledgeable banking professional. We have had to call them five times since November 8 for the same issue, and each time we have gotten a different answer, and none of them correct, it seems, since our issue has still not been resolved by Capital One. Steer clear!
I have been a loyal consumer for several years, and never missed a single payment. I was trying to rebuild my credit because it was in the poor range so they gave me a high APR. Several years later, I have excellent credit, I called them to lower my APR and they refused. They will NOT honor the credit system. Once you are locked into the APR they will not make it reflect your hard work. Its clear they dont care about your loyalty they only care about money. Im out.
Horrible, worst credit card ever . I paid more than the balance due every month and they close my account saying it was suspicious payments. How is it wrong to pay more each months????????????????
I opened up a credit card account with this bank. I used the card for a month, and made sure I made my payment ahead of the due date. Capital One out the blue locked my account and told me that they needed to verify that I had open the account. I told them there hasn’t been any fraudulent activity and I did infact open the account. They told me to submit A ton of documentation that I deemed to be unnecessary. Whenever I call to verify my account they game me the run around. I then decided to cancel my account. I can’t work with a bank that’s unreliable and who doesn’t value the customer experience. ZERO STARS!!!
I signed up for a Bass Pro Card. Used it once. $8k limit. Went to use it again with my daughter, a shirt for her and a flannel for me. Denied. Denied denied. They claimed suspicious activity. BS. They are now demanding a copy of my DL, which was verified at the store. A copy of my Social Security card, which I’ve bought homes without, and a most recent bill showing my current address. Total BS. Good luck understanding the cuc on the phone too. Complete Trash and Liars.
If I could give this company zero stars, I would. I opened a checking account for my daughter, who was having her small checks from part-time employment direct deposited. Without notice, Capital One locked her accounts and requested additional verification via standard mail (who does that anymore). Not allowing my daughter access to her money is unacceptable. After weeks of back and forth, we’ve resolved the issue and closed the account. We’ll never bank with Capital One again and I suggest you avoid this company as well.
C1 started out as an okay company, but it has gotten worse over these last year. My final straw was the harassment for something I never got before and them not updating their system, when the update has been done in the app. Poor customer service representatives that think they know about a person by treating me like I dont know anything. An refusing to fix a problem that was very fixable just 1 years ago. Taking over a major brand credit holders but not providing them adequate customer service for them. All accounts will be closed, including those on individuals I referred to C1.
Redeemed points for two $200 digital gift cards last week to take advantage of a 25% discount in points. So, instead of 50,000 points, it was only 37,500 – great right? Not so fast. Capital One botched the digital delivery and after a week of aggravation, decided to reinstate the 37,500 to my account. But, I still wanted the 2 gift cards. Promotion no longer in effect, so now the same gift cards set me back 50,000 points. When I pointed out the inherent unfairness imposed on me by their mistake, they were unmoved – awful customer service!
Trashy Capital one. They been trash since I been with them. Two years of headaches. Please dont get with these scammers. This is thee worst credit card company ever. I cant stand them. The lue due lie to everyone. I cant wait to get away from these low lifes. If you dont want no headaches dont got with these scammers
I received a notification through my online banking app (capital one) that if I downloaded this and installed, then gave full permissions, I would receive a $45 bonus…. Well, I added the Capital One shopping app and extension to my Safari to claim the $45 bonus. I gave all permissions and complete freedom of the app/extension, yet I have not received any of the compensation advertised. It’s a fraudulent joke. And a poor one at that. They don’t give anything. They just want to waste your time and collect as much information from your phone as possible.
I mean this is a junk financial operation. Complete trash, customer support has Filipino heavy breathers with barely legible English, while the fat yanks who make the money cant be contacted in the US. Crapital Ones app and automated telephone system are beyond infuriating, which VP or which bellend set this up? Complete madness.
They offered me a new card online to replace my existing card I chose the saver card with 3% cash back It chose the venture card with 1% and travel miles. I dont travel I had to call they said theres nothing they can do and immediately they were ordering this new card even though it was their mistake I chose savor and they gave me venture. Its a website glitch apparently and they said that they were having a problem on their end but they couldnt fix it So thats giving me a card I dont want I could have just kept what I had Why even offer me a choice if youre not going to give me what I chose. Very very disappointed in them
I am a new Customer, just opened an Account. They provide false and contradicting instructions. A small part of their service is ok. A much larger majority of their service is not good. Capital One had a published good rating online for an over all comparison of competing banking, but I found that not to be accurate, and I noticed that nearly 90% of Customers rate them as 1-star poor Customer Service. I agree.
Capital One offers an outstanding experience across both its banking and credit card services. The credit cards come with competitive benefits and easy account management, while their banking services are reliable and user-friendly. The app ties everything together, providing seamless access to accounts, real-time updates, and helpful tools. Capital One stands out for its convenience, innovation, and customer-focused approach.
Getting contacted by a debt collection agency is never a pleasant experience. The constant calls and aggressive letters can feel overwhelming. When a notorious agency like Capital Bill Pay starts pursuing you for an unpaid debt, it’s natural to wonder – are they even legit?
In this article, we’ll uncover the truth about Capital Bill Pay Are they a real company or some kind of scam? I’ll outline their background, common complaints, lawsuit practices, negotiation strategies, and tips for protecting your rights
Overview of Capital Bill Pay
Capital Bill Pay LLC is a real debt collection agency located in Franklin, Tennessee. They’ve been in business since 2003 and employ over 300 people. Here are some quick facts:
- Specialize in medical debts, credit cards, personal loans, and consumer accounts
- Collect over $100 million per year
- Owned by Sherman Financial Group
- Member of the Association of Credit and Collection Professionals (ACA International)
They use standard collection tactics like calls, letters, lawsuits, and credit reporting. However, many consumer advocates accuse Capital Bill Pay of crossing legal lines with harassment, threats, and deception.
Why So Many Complaints Against Capital Bill Pay?
For a company its size, Capital Bill Pay racks up a very high number of consumer grievances and lawsuits:
- Over 200 complaints with the Better Business Bureau (BBB)
- Over 1,100 official complaints filed with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB)
- Hundreds of negative reviews online from unhappy consumers
What are people alleging Capital Bill Pay does wrong? Here are some of the most common issues:
-
Excessive phone calls – Consumers report getting 10+ calls per day from Capital Bill Pay collectors. This can violate the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) limits.
-
Deceptive practices – Trying to collect wrong debts, inflated balances, adding unauthorized fees
-
No debt validation – Ignoring written debt validation requests required by the FDCPA.
-
False statements – Threats of arrest, wage garnishment or other actions they don’t actually take.
-
Obscene language – Collectors using profanity, racial slurs, and belittling language on calls.
While no collection agency is perfect, the frequency of complaints implies real systemic issues with Capital Bill Pay’s processes. Consumers being pursued should understand their debt rights.
How to Respond If Capital Bill Pay Contacts You
If Capital Bill Pay starts calling or mailing you about an unpaid medical bill or credit card debt, stay calm but be firm. Here are smart steps to take:
-
Request debt validation in writing – Make them prove the details in writing. Send your request via certified mail.
-
Dispute inaccuracies – If the amount they claim you owe is wrong, dispute it in writing and demand proof.
-
Record calls & save letters – Documentation helps if you need to sue for illegal practices.
-
Send a cease contact letter – Invoke your right under the FDCPA to tell them to only contact you by mail. Stop calls.
-
File official complaints – Submit grievances to the CFPB and your state attorney general citing violations.
-
Consult a lawyer – For serious cases of harassment or fraudulent debts, get professional legal assistance responding.
Following up with official validation and cease contact letters can force Capital Bill Pay to prove they are pursuing you legally. Don’t let them intimidate you into paying a potentially inaccurate or expired debt.
How Capital Bill Pay Lawsuits Work
Sadly, Capital Bill Pay is known for taking consumers to court aggressively when debts go unpaid. If you get hit with a lawsuit over an old medical bill or credit card debt, here are some tips:
-
Don’t ignore the court summons – You must respond within the required period or risk an automatic default judgment.
-
Review case documents – Check the complaint from Capital Bill Pay for any errors in the account history or amount owed.
-
Meet court deadlines – Ask the court clerk for details on responding and any extension options.
-
File an answer – In your response, address each claim point-by-point and raise defenses.
-
Get legal help – While not required, consulting a debt defense lawyer can really strengthen your case against Capital Bill Pay.
-
Negotiate a settlement – Take reasonable settlement offers to avoid trial if possible. Get all deals in writing.
-
Appear in court – If unresolved pre-trial, be sure to show up early, dressed nicely, with all your evidence.
With the proper response strategy, you may be able to get the lawsuit dismissed or settled favorably. Don’t let Capital Bill Pay win a judgment by default through intimidation.
Tips for Negotiating Debt Settlements
If unable to pay the full amount demanded by Capital Bill Pay, you may be able to settle your account for less. Here are tips to get the best deal:
-
Act fast – The best settlements come early before a potential lawsuit. Capital Bill Pay has more incentive to compromise.
-
Get terms in writing – Require a signed contract detailing the lump-sum payment amount and deadline before paying anything.
-
Review for errors – Leverage any discrepancies, unauthorized fees, or incorrectly calculated interest that violate state laws.
-
Consider defenses – Debts past the statute of limitations are expired and unenforceable, giving them more leverage in settlement talks.
-
Report problems – File official complaints if Capital Bill Pay uses threats or harassment to pressure you.
-
Start offers low – Many experts recommend beginning around 25-50% of the claimed total, allowing room for negotiation up.
-
Check tax implications – Settled credit card debt can potentially count as taxable income. Understand the true costs.
With the right leverage and negotiating approach, you may be able to settle your Capital Bill Pay debt for pennies on the dollar. Just make sure to get all agreements in writing before paying anything.
Is Capital Bill Pay a Scam or Legit Business?
Given all the controversies and complaints surrounding their aggressive practices, it’s reasonable for consumers to ask – is Capital Bill Pay a scam?
The truth is, Capital Bill Pay is a real, licensed debt collection company that’s been operating for many years. Some key facts confirming they are a legitimate business:
- Accredited by the BBB with an A rating
- Have obtained thousands of court judgments against consumers
- Collect for major well-known creditors and lenders
- Many debts they collect are legally owed by consumers
However, many of Capital Bill Pay’s collection tactics walk an ethical line:
- Harassing phone calls well beyond the legal limits
