SQL Question 6: Filtering Customers Based on Multiple Conditions

LiveRamp connects customers with the brands they love by using data connectivity to understand customer preferences. For this task, let’s say we have a database table with information about all of LiveRamp’s customers, such as their demographics and what they do.

As a Data Analyst, it’s your job to write an SQL query that can find active customers in “San Francisco” who are between the ages of 25 and 35, have signed up in the last three months, and have a total point count of more than 500.

customer_id activity_status city age registration_date total_points
785 Active San Francisco 32 05/05/2022 750
894 Active New York 28 06/21/2022 650
587 Active San Francisco 37 06/15/2022 800
985 Inactive San Francisco 26 04/15/2022 550
333 Active San Francisco 30 05/12/2022 510
888 Inactive San Francisco 28 06/22/2022 700

This query filters the customers based on the required conditions. The WHERE clause sets the conditions, and the AND keyword makes sure that all of them must be met. The keyword BETWEEN is used to narrow down the age range, and the keyword INTERVAL takes 3 months off the current date so that registration dates can be compared. This query will return the list of customers that meet these criteria.

SQL Question 10: What are the similarities and differences between a clustered and non-clustered index?

Here is an example of a clustered index on the column of a table of LiveRamp customer transactions:

This makes a clustered index on the column, which tells the table what order the data rows should be in.

Here is an example of a non-clustered index on the column of the same table:

This will make a non-clustered index on the column, which won’t change the order of the rows of data in the table.

Because it works better with queries, a non-clustered index is faster for searches that return few records, while a clustered index is faster for searches that return many records. But changes to a clustered index take longer because the data rows have to be moved around. Changes to a non-clustered index, on the other hand, happen faster because only the index data structure needs to be changed.
