Applied online and immediately received an email for a video interview which contained 6 questions and 2 activities. 3 Days latter the HR rep informed me that my information was passed on to the hiring manager. The following week the hiring manager called to schedule a Microsoft Teams Interview. The interview was a panel interview with 3 individuals. The following day I was contacted by HR that I was the selected candidate.

An extremely dehumanizing process which includes using an AI and video recorder to answer questions that are not even remotely tied to the role. Ancient looking website took too long to figure out how to connect to the right camera, and once it required me to sit a specific way I realized that it was going to judge my facial expressions and movements as a part of the process. This is extremely discriminatory toward anyone who doesn’t sit tall and still or uses their hands. Don’t interview here.

What happens in a Lumen HireVue interview?

In a HireVue interview, you’ll record yourself answering questions.

Those questions might be shown to you as a couple of lines of text or they might be displayed as a pre-recorded video by someone at Lumen asking you that question.

Then, you’ll get around 30 seconds to prepare your answer and around two minutes to answer.

The number of questions varies, so be ready to answer anything from 2 to 5 questions.

You can answer on your cell phone, laptop, or desktop computer – as long as it has a camera.

I have been on many first dates, and whether it’s in a coffee shop or over dinner, the first face-to-face meeting is tremendously important. You have worked hard on your cover letter and résumé, and you should not taint the sparkling first impression you have created with the wrong choice in dress.

Avoid making your mystery employer annoyed and waiting for you by leaving at least ten minutes earlier than you need to, just in case you get stuck in traffic. Arrive at least ten minutes early. The interview will start out much better if you are early rather than nervous and running late. Arriving early also gives you the time to have some coffee and review materials you may need for the interview. Coming on time to an interview or a first date shows you respect the time of the person you plan to meet.

On a first date, it is all about communication. Sometimes, there may be silences that cannot be filled or the person I have just met discloses their entire life story to me in less than an hour. The stories I tell on my first dates are more personal than what would be disclosed in a job interview, but the mindset is the same. To make that great impression, it is really important to heavily prepare and practice, even before you have an interview scheduled. By brainstorming answers to typical interview questions in a typed document or out loud, later during the interview you will easily remember the examples of your past experiences that demonstrate why you are best for the job.
