Having reliable access to clean, safe drinking water is something we often take for granted. Mahaska Rural Water System (MRWS) provides this essential service to residents in their coverage area in Iowa As a customer, it’s important to know your options to pay your rural water bill conveniently and on time each month.
In this article, I’ll outline the various ways MRWS allows you to pay your water bill so you can choose the method that works best for you.
Pay Online
The easiest way to pay your MRWS water bill is through their online payment portal. You can make secure online payments 24/7 without having to register.
To pay online:
- Go to mahaskaruralwater.com and click “Pay Your Bill Now”
- Enter your MRWS account number
- Submit your payment details
Online payments made before midnight will post to your account the next day. Payments after midnight take up to 48 hours to post. You’ll receive an emailed receipt for confirmation.
Pay by Mail
If you prefer to mail in a check payment, send it to
Mahaska Rural Water SystemPO Box 210Oskaloosa IA 52577
Include your payment stub or write your account number on the check. Allow 5-7 business days for standard delivery.
Automatic Bank Draft
For hassle-free bill payment, consider setting up automatic bank draft through MRWS. This automatically deducts your water bill amount from your checking or savings account each month.
To start bank draft, download the ACH form on their website and drop it off or mail it in with a voided check. This prevents late fees since payment is always on time.
Pay in Person
You can pay your rural water bill in person at the MRWS office:
401 B Ave W
Oskaloosa, IA 52577
Their office hours are 8am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. You can pay by cash, check or credit card when paying in person.
Pay by Credit Card
In addition to online and in-person, MRWS allows water bill payment by credit card over the phone. Just call their office at 641-673-8851 and have your card ready.
They accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express cards. A statement fee may apply.
Pay Through Your Bank
Many banks and credit unions allow you to pay bills through their online banking portal. You can set up Mahaska Rural Water as a payee and schedule one-time or recurring payments from your account.
Check with your financial institution for details as fees may apply. Payments can take up to a week to process.
Avoid Late Fees
Mahaska Rural Water bills are due 20 days after the billing date. Make sure payment is received by the due date to avoid a 10% late penalty.
I recommend paying a few days early to account for mail and processing time. Late fees apply after the due date, not the postmark date.
Payment Assistance
If you’re struggling to pay your MRWS water bill, reach out to them to ask about possible payment arrangements or assistance programs for which you may qualify. It’s important to take action before your service is disrupted for non-payment.
