Curbside trash collection is paid as a special assessment on the property owner’s annual tax bill for Monroe County residential properties; businesses must arrange for service with local providers.
Trash cans must not exceed 32 gallons in capacity, and should not weigh more than 50 pounds when full. Lids should be secured if left out at night or before collection days. If animals or the weather scatter trash from your cans, you are responsible for cleaning the area within 24 hours of collection times; litter causes environmental degradation and hazards to wildlife. Trash cans should be brought in from the curb after collection.
Effective October 1, 2024, weekly residential yard waste collection will be limited to “ten – 32 gallon” receptacles (cans). The receptacles can weigh no more than 50 pounds, vegetation must not extend more than 12 inches above the rim of the receptacle (can) and bundled yard waste is no longer allowed for weekly residential collection. This is supported by Monroe County Solid Waste Ordinance, Chapter 21, as amended August 21, 2024. If you have more yard waste/vegetation than “ten – 32 gallon” receptacles can hold, here are a couple of options: 1. Additional yard waste/vegetation can be taken to the nearest transfer station, for paid disposal rate (tipping fee). 2.
