POLICE OFFICER Interview Questions & Answers 2021! (How to PASS a Police In Force Interview!)
General interview questions
These are some general questions the board may ask you to understand who you are and what your goals are for your career:
Explain three reasons we should hire you.
Have you applied to other departments or agencies?
Have you had any car accidents recently?
How many speeding tickets or driving infractions are on your record?
How do you think your friends would describe you?
What do you expect from this department?
And what are your expectations from the position?
What are your career goals?
In what areas did you excel in your previous position?
Tell us what you know about this department.
What is your biggest source of motivation?
Who is the mayor in this region? Can you tell me about the chief of police?
The interview board may ask you these questions to determine how serious you are about joining their department. To prepare for this question and other knowledge-based questions like it, you should know about some basic department information. This includes the names of chiefs or sheriffs, which divisions the department has, points of interest or high crime within the community and who the mayor or other elected officials are.
Example:“The mayor in this region is Joanna Smith, and the chief of police is Bethany Green. The department newly appointed the chief as of this year, and the mayor is facing an election next year.”
What is the police oral board?
The police oral board interview is a meeting between you and three to five members of the department, human resources specialists or people from the community. Depending on the size of the police department, you may only meet with one person for your oral board interview. The people on the board ask you several questions to determine if youre the best candidate for a position in the police department. Scoring a 70 or above usually ensures you pass the board, while scoring more than 90 increases your chances of receiving an offer for the position.
During the police oral board, you may answer questions about yourself and questions about your skills as a police officer. They may ask questions about which decisions you would make and how you manage difficult situations. The board wants to determine if you can work well under pressure and collaborate well with other officers. Typically, the interview begins with the board asking you to tell them about yourself and ends with them asking if you have any further comments. Most boards contain general, skill-based and situational questions for you to answer.
