PILOT INTERVIEW Questions And Answers! (How to PASS an Airline Pilot Interview)
1. What is CRM process as Airline Pilot? The systematic and effective use of all available resources to ensure a desirable outcome and completion of the flight. Focusing on communication, teamwork, task allocation, decision-making and situational awareness. The major contributors in the CRM process are: Dispatchers, flight attendants, maintenance, ATC and of course the cockpit crew.
2. What is the MAP on a non-precision approach? Non-precision: MAP is usually visually identified by a capitol and bold “M” in the Jepps or at the end of the solid line on NOS. There are several ways to id the MAP: Published DME at the MAP, Navaid such as the middle marker (MM), or timing from the FAF
3. What is the importance of proficiency in several languages for a pilot? A private pilot may limit himself to knowledge of English good enough to understand control towers. Other pilots, being more publicly involved figures by necessity, greatly benefit from knowing more than one language.
4. What is your Proudest accomplishment? Becoming a pilot and graduating from college as to be the biggest accomplish so far.
5. What is the 1-2-3 rule? Requirements for filing an alternate. 1-2-3: 1hr before to 1hr after estimated time of arrival, the weather must be forecast to be 2000′ ceiling and 3SM vis.
6. What makes a good captain or what do you expect from a Captain? one that is knowledgeable, decisive, conservative and safety conscious, good people skills, superior communication skills, solid piloting skills, can manage stress and avoid confrontation
7. List your qualifications as a pilot? Besides relevant college degree(s), pilots graduate from flying school and participate in annual additional training.
8. What is GRID MORA? It’s an altitude derived by Jepp or provided by state authorities. If derived by Jepp, Grid MORA clear all terrain and structures by 1000′ in areas where highest elevations are 5000′ MSL or lower. MORA values clear all terrain and structures by 2000′ in areas where highest elevations are 5001′ MSL or higher. Grid MORA (State) altitude supplied by the State Authority provides 2000′ clearance in mountainous areas and 1000′ in non-mountainous areas. Also… a +/- denote doubtful accuracy but are believed to provide sufficient reference point clearance.
9. What is the definition of CRM? CRM is a system which allows optimum use of all available resources – equipment, procedures, interpersonal communication, team work – all to promote safety and enhance efficiency in operations
10. What is Vso of your most recent aircraft? Cessna 172 is 41Kts
11. What is the max distance from the runway if you were to circle to land? Depends on your speed
12. Have you applied anywhere else? Just be honest on this one. If you are in the job hunt, it’s normal to apply to several companies. It’s great to tell them that Cathay is your top choice, but it would be suspect to say Cathay is your only choice.
13. What is mach tuck? As the aircraft reaches critical mach the nose of the aircraft tends to pitch downwards due to the flow of air over the wing reaching supersonic speeds producing additional life and center of pressure moving rearward. As the center of pressure moves rearward the elevators become less effective, pushing the aircraft into a potentially unrecoverable dive.
14. What is tower’s NORDO signal to be cleared to land? Steady green
15. What is VMCG? minimum speed control in the ground
16. What is the difference between Blue, Green Airports? blue is IFR (has approaches) green is VFR (no approaches)
17. What is GRADIENT CLIMB? 3%
18. What is VMCA? Minimun Speed Control in the Air
19. What is windshear? its a change on direction and speed of the wind
20. What is MOCA? Minimum Obstacle Clearance that provides obstable clearance between Vor airways. It also ensures VOR coverage 22nm from the nearest VOR
21. What is hyperventilation? hyperventilation is when the body has too much Oxygen and not enough Co2
22. Ever had an emergency? yes, many over the years
23. Pilots have many simultaneous responsibilities during the flight. What can you tell me about this? Pilots navigate the flight, observe and direct the activities of the crew, check instruments, keep an eye on the weather, and monitor altitude and air traffic. Doing all these and more, often simultaneously, requires outstanding multi-tasking skills and power of concentration.
24. What are the max airspeeds in C airspace? 200 KIAS within 4 NM of Primary Class C Airport
25. How would you behave as the pilot of a plane during an emergency? Describe first what your emotional response would be. It is important to demonstrate, preferably through examples, that you can maintain your poise during such events, and that you possess enough presence of mind to activate emergency procedures and delegate duties among crew members as necessary.

27. Did you ever have to modify the flight course in the past? Pilots are able to modify the course in flight, if this is dictated by internal or external conditions. This is not a small responsibility and needs careful coordination with control towers and scrupulous attention to detail.

33. Where Is The Faf On A Vor/ils Approach? On a VOR approach, the FAP is whenever you are established on course inbound and the final decent may be started. For non-precision approaches, the FAF is the “Maltese Cross” and for precision, the arrow which identifies the GS intercept.

45. What is Definition of V2? Single engine climb speed until safe altitude or clear of obstacles
46. What is Definition of V1? on a balance runway it is the last chance for you to decide not to go if you have and emergency and still stop on the runway according to the air data
47. What is the definition of Hypoxia? Not enough Oxygen
48. What is the seating capacity of the Dash 8 100 and 300 and how many flight attendants you need? DA-100 (37) DA-300 (50) FA 1
49. Tell me the biggest factor as far as fuel conservation goes as it relates to a jet engine? TSFC thrust specific fuel consumption which directly inperpolates to power setting and altitude. Higher you climb the less fuel required. Throttle settings also have a say in conservation and relates more to maintenance issues which is why full throttle takeoffs are rarely done.
50. What qualities make a good captain? Confident, Diligent, Good CRM skills, Good Problem Solver

Why did you decide for a career of a pilot?
Say them that you enjoy flying, and that you believe to be a responsible person. You can also say that you have all skills and strengths needed for this type of work. Alternatively you can refer to an experience that motivated you to pursue the career, such as meeting a pilot when you were young, or having passion for aircraft models since childhood.
The key is to convince them that you really want the job, and did not apply just because you’ve already spent a small fortune on your studies and training.
With the Selena Quintanilla’s death, his relatives, including his parents and siblings, decided to change their scene and no longer live in the same house. In November 1996, Chris Pérez decided to move house and left their Bloomington property.
The memory of Selena still lived with the guitarist, that is what her partner realized, who in 2008 decided to separate, after not putting up with the vices of alcohol that Pérez presented.
After the death of his daughter, the Selena Quintanilla’s father founded The Selena Foundation, a group that helps children in crisis. Today he continues to produce music through his record company, Q-Productions operating since 1993.
Here we are going to tell you from how the singer’s rapprochement with Chris Pérez was, if his parents divorced to what happened with him Tex-Mex queen’s wedding ring. A mix of data that until now you did not know about the American artist.
A year before her death, Selena Quintanilla opened a business. They were two boutiques, located in Corpus Christi and San Antonio. Shortly before the tragedy, the idea of the singer was to open a third location in the city of Monterrey.

On June 20, 1994 Selena Quintanilla Perez appeared on Cristinas special edition, wearing her hair “No Me Queda Mas” video style (The song of which she also sang on this appearence), up tall in curls, she wore a black vest with gold lapel, underneath a white v-necked t-shirt and black spandex pants, plus tall black boots. This is part one of Cristinas interview with Selena. In this english translated version of the interview, you will learn much about our favorite Tejano Queen! Crssssssssss…..Now we take you to our regularly schedueled program, (Cristinas theme music) Selena and Cristina:
Cristina: Do you consider yourself as “Sexy”?
Selena: (Hesitates)ummm…no (An applaud from the audience, Selena laughs) Aye Gracias, well no, I dont consider myself as sexy.
Cristina: Could you stand up? (Selena stands and raises her arms) What do you think?
Selena: Thank you.
Cristina: I know that a lot of women say this little girl is not embarrassed to sing or to dress like this and then to sell these clothes in a boutique.
Selena: Okay, but let me explain a little more about things like this. Its like a performance, singing. It is like a “show” and I am not like that normally. There are 2 different personalities. Normally I dress in a more modest fashion.
Cristina: Okay, you feel that you are 2 people. That happens to almost everyone that are in the entertainment field. You feel that you are Selena, “the person” and Selena, “the personality.”
Selena: Exactly
Cristina: Like a doll for the public. Explain the basic difference between the two Selenas.
Selena: Well, when I am singing I am a completely different person. I could be very free, depending on the situation I could do what I want. I could have to deliver, as with many songs, a lot of emotion if a song is very sad as with a very happy and excited song. It depends, it depends. Compared to when I am in my, I am normal, like whomever, of the public.
Cristina: Are you a “Modern” girl or are you “Old fashion”?
Selena: Old fashion, because of my family. (Cristina begins but Selena interupts) Also naturally moral.
Cristina: Okay, and your form of projecting yourself on the stage, your husband is your guitarist. He travels with you. He never had an attack of jealousy when there is a man near with intentions of flirting?
Selena: No, because we communicate. Before we were married and when we were friends! It is the most important thing to be friends before anything.
Cristina: What is it that attracted you to him?
Selena: He was timid.
Cristina: He was timid?
Selena: Umm humm..(nodds)
Cristina: And you were timid also?
Selena: No (laughs) Not as much as he.
Cristina: But when you were a child, you were timid?
Selena: Yes, very timid.
Cristina: What did you do to over come it so you could give advice to those who are timid also?
Selena: Well, I believe that is due to my dad. And his BELT! (Selena laughs and begins to imitate her father) “Youre gonna sing, little girl!” (Shaking her hands in front of her and laughing) Boy, I was very timid. But when a person grows up you change and those things too.
Cristina: What is it that you do to control the men that flirt and go overboard and get the Selena “personality” confused with Selena “the person” and they think you are real sexy? This must have happened before, because it happens to everyone. How do you stop that?
Selena: “Im married, you should have more respect.”
Cristina: When youre on the stage youre not married, when youre on the stage you are neither married nor single, you are a “personality.”
Selena: A lot of people respect me because, I dont know if youve ever been to our shows..
Cristina: Yes.
Selena: When I am singing, I believe that if I respect the public, then they will respect me and I know it. Its noticable.
Cristina: Do you believe you are very strong?
Selena: I believe so, dominate and aggressive.
Cristina: Dominate and aggressive?
Selena: You have to be.
Cristina: Why?
Selena: Theres a lot of men in this business, if you cant speak for yourself they are going to run you down every which way.
Cristina: You think if you werent a strong person in this business the people would take advantage of you because you are a woman?
Selena: Exactly, it has happened! I also have the protection of my father.
Cristina: Tell me, whats the worse that has happened to you?
Selena: Not only me but the whole group. Just because I am a woman, the promoters didnt want to let me give shows, or promote the group because I was a woman and also very young. Thats one of the problems with the group when we first started, they didnt want to give us the opportunity to play.
Cristina: Okay, we will talk about your father who youve mentioned 4 times in one segment, a person very important in your life and your representative. And the person that said “Youre gonna sing!” (Selena laughs) and the nest segment, today its incredible to believe when Selena was a child she prefered to play football with the boys instead of playing with dolls. Cristina: Here we are back with Selena. The first thing I want to ask you in this segment is how come you have this “bow” done? (hairstyle) or how do yo say “bow” in Mexico? Chongo? (pony tail) Selena: Gajos..(meaning orange slices shaped) Cristina: How come you put your hairdo so big today? Selena: Because…(laughs)…I dont know.. Cristina: Did you do it all by yourself? Selena: Yes.. Cristina: Ive very amazed! How can someone can do that all by themselves??! Selena: I dont know, I dont know.. Cristina: Do you do your own make-up too? Selena: Yes, everything, everything. Cristina: Wow… Selena: Thank you very much! Cristina: Wow! My god…I am very impressed. Great, well, were going to talk about the father whose face isnt very friendly and in this segment I want to ask what did your father do for all of you to be “professional musicians.” Tell me what you used to do and what happened during your life? 
Selena: Everyday we had to practice only 15 minutes. We didnt like it at all but when youre really young you want to play with your friends and neighbors. Just to pass the time and have fun! And to practice 15 minutes! It was, “AHH!!! But papa, we wanna play!” But those minutes paid off! Cristina: What kinda work did your father do? He ran a restaurant? Selena: Yes, a restaurant. Cristina: Where the kids used to play? Selena: Yes, that was like a hobby…to pass the time. I believe my father never thought that this was going to be our career, being an artist. Cristina: Your father was a musician too?
Selena: Yes, a musician way before. He had a group called “Abe y Los Dinos.” Thats why we called ourselves “Selena y Los Dinos,” because it is 2nd generation. Cristina: You have a brother and a sister. Selena: Yes Cristina: Both are older than you? Selena: Exactly.. Cristina: You are the baby? Selena: The baby. Cristina: Okay, arent they jealous of “the baby”? Selena: No.. Cristina: That its “Selena y los Dinos” and not “Los Dinos and also Selena”? Selena: No, no, no..All of us have..we grew up with morals and also respect for everyone. My father also treated us EQUAL and were not different. We all have talent even if they are in different aspects. Cristina: What do you think of one father, that is also a manager, like Michael Jacksons father? They came out with a lot of books and his kids who are now adults are now complaining about how he used to make them work, how he was very abusive. He used to hit them and that they didnt really have a childhood. Whats your opinion of a situation like this one? Selena: First I want to say that my father wasnt like that. My father, he saw the talent and he tried to cultivate it and tried to do something about it. But it wasnt in a bad way. It was to help us to do something in life. I think it is something very sad because not all parents are like that. And even if the father of Michael Jackson did that, you have to love your parents even if they do bad things. (Applause) Thank you. You know, its like the roles, like they reverse. When a child does bad things, the parents are always going to love their child even if they do something bad. They are always going to love them. Its like that love you have within a family. Cristina: You think that those kids should have more respect and love them even though the parents made them go through something like that? Selena: I think that Michael Jackson loves his father. Theyve gone through a lot of bad things. Cristina: Did you think you lost something because you were a child star? Like what ordinary kids had? Selena: I believe so…. but I won in other aspects. I met other goals. Even though I was a girl and I lost some of my childhood it was for a good cause. To help my family because weve been working since we were very little to put food on the table. Cristina: So you didnt used to dream about being a singer or a star? Like other girls who get a spoon or a soda bottle and practice in front of a mirror because they dream of becoming a big famous singer! And you, no? Selena: No… I never thought about it. Cristina: What did you want to be? 
Selena: I wanted to have my own business and I had a dream about being a designer and I am doing that. Cristina: You are designing and were going to show them today here. How come you used to climb trees with the boys and you didnt like dolls and you are a designer!? Selena: (Laughs) I dont know! I love a lot of sports. The boys were more challenging. I could do anything like the men! It was equal! Cristina: How come that is so important to you? Selena: The truth is I dont know. I just wanted to play with the boys at that time, now I dont! (Laughs) Cristina: What do you like to do to relax? Selena: To relax? To tell the truth, I dont know how to rest! I am a person that has to do something all the time. When I relax I am working on business. Cristina; Selena thinks that a singing job is the same as working in a factory or secretary? Selena: Its a job. Cristina: But it doesnt pay the same Selena? Selena: (Laughs) Thats true, but its work! A person…The life of an artist is not all glamorous. Its a lot of work. A lot of people think that its very easy. They think you always stay in good hotels, you buy good things, but it is not like that. You have to work very hard like everybody. Cristina: How do you like being a star? How do you like when you get to a hotel and the whole world seems to be after you? When youre having dinner, when youre walking, when they ask for an autograph and when they ask for your picture all the time, when youre feeling good and when youre not feeling good? Selena: Well, for me its totally something! When I am… like when I dont feel good at the same time I think they dont know my private life. How can you take that little magic that they have in you? The they have of you, if you treat them good…you understand, if you treat somebody bad, theyre not going to buy your record! Why, why would you want to treat someone like that? Cristina: Always when they ask for a photo or autograph, you will give it to them? Selena: Yes. Cristina: You never refuse? Selena: No…or I say when Im with my family and I want to relax little with them, Ill say “Could you wait a little and after Ill sign?” Cristina: What do you think about the artists who dont do that? 
Selena: (Makes a face) For me, how can you do that when the public has you up there? (gestures with hands) You understand? (applause) How can you do that? They are the ones who make the artist! They buy the records, they buy everything. And you have to be grateful to the public in that way to give autographs if they want an autograph, you give them an autograph! Its not going to take very much of your time, I do it! Cristina: Its not a big deal, in other words? Selena: Exactly!
