International Women’s Day: An interview with present and future female leadership
“I am a woman who has managed to realize her desires and ambitions. But that doesnt mean I havent made a lot of mistakes along the way.”
“As much fear as fascination. The fear of isolation and emotional unreality when nobody contradicts you and the need to be right takes precedence over lucidity. But power also gives you wings…”
Have you ever been in a situation which made you think the idea of being a woman and being powerful are not been compatible?
“I find it interesting that when women enter the public sphere their power is simple ‘feminine power’. Its true that there is a feminine way to assert power, more empathetic, more social and always less brutal. Whats also fascinating is how this ‘feminine power’ developed its own aesthetic: the suit in the 80s, thanks to Monsieur Saint Laurent, and very high-heels. Its always amusing to see “power women” clacking their stilettos on the ground before taking to the floor in a meeting. And of course, the blow dries! Women making decisions with big curly hair is not likely to happen soon.”
“Having created 200 jobs, becoming an independent entrepreneur, and continuing my production in France even though it is more expensive.”
Why did you choose to become an engineer?
Engineering excited me because it allowed me to pursue my love of science and satisfy my desire to learn, question and solve things.
What is your role as HR Team Leader?
To best meet the needs of our internal electronic and mechanical teams, I have always actively participated in the recruitment of interns for our design offices.
Today, I manage training at the group level, while continuing to provide support to the technical teams for the follow-up of employees’ careers.
This new challenge allows me to continue to evolve in the HR function to remain close to the my co-workers, while having the possibility of continuing to support them both in their professional development and in their personal growth.
Argentina decriminalizing abortion is a big deal. Latin America has many of the world’s most restrictive abortion laws, so seeing a women’s movement succeed there is huge.
Women were disproportionally forced out of the labor market because they are paid less and are more likely than men to work in the informal sector where they had no job security. The past year has been an economic catastrophe for women. That’s why the UN thinks the pandemic will push 47 million more women into extreme poverty by September 2021.
K: Also, this hasn’t hit all women equally. Women of color, Indigenous women, ethnic minorities, transgender women, and women with disabilities or who are migrants or displaced from their homes have experienced the economic consequences and the risks of getting sick more because of intersecting discriminations they face.
As more people continue to work from home post-pandemic, this divide will matter more than ever. So many people already have to go online to apply for jobs, pay rent and utility bills, access social protection measures, get plane tickets, and to sign up to get a Covid-19 vaccine. The pandemic has accelerated the shift of everything to online.
