Why should we extend you a bid?

Don’t panic at this direct question! Each fraternity has different values, goals, and activities. Learn about the fraternity and its past to better understand what you can bring to the table. Think about how you would fit in with the fraternity, and let your past experiences and personality shine with your answer! You can talk about how you’ve enjoyed the formal rush week and use specific examples of connections you’ve made or activities that were fun. Make sure to emphasize how you want to be a member of the fraternity.

What would you gain from being in this fraternity?

This is a great fraternity interview question to show off your personality and explain why you want to be in the fraternity. If the fraternity is big on community service, explain how you enjoy helping others and want the opportunity to do so. If the fraternity caters to a specific demographic such as young Black men, elaborate on how you want to connect with others with similar backgrounds. If the fraternity is more of a social club, talk about how you enjoy meeting new people and building lasting friendships.

What is Your Major and Why Did You Choose It?

This is a generally easy fraternity interview question. Your major can let the fraternity know what type of person you are and what you are good at academically. With this question, you can explain what caused you to choose your major and what you hope to do with it in the future. Having goals and aspirations can improve your bid opportunities. Fraternal organizations want each of their members to be successful so they can have a legacy of former members who have achieved great things post-graduation.

What activities were you involved in high school?

If you are rushing as a freshman, fraternity members may ask you about your high school experience. This interview question gives them a better idea of who you are. You can answer this question by listing the activities you did in high school and explain why you joined certain clubs, sports, or activities. Even further, highlight what you got out of each activity. This shows the fraternity that you didn’t join a sport or club “just because” or to embellish your transcript.

Do you have any Hobbies? What are your current interests?

These two fraternity interview questions are interchangeable. Fraternity members want to evaluate how your interest relates to other fraternity members—similar interests may indicate your fit in the fraternity. This is another opportunity to add a short story about a specific hobby or interest to stand out. Make it funny or lighthearted—you don’t want to make them uncomfortable with a sob story. Fraternities go through countless fraternity interviews so give them something to remember you!

12 Sorority Interview Questions to Expect

Unlike a college admissions interview, a sorority interview is a more relaxed conversation. Of course, you want to put your best foot forward. But it’s important to come across as authentic and approachable.

Remember, the sister you’re talking to is gauging how well you would fit in with the other women in her sorority. Being authentic opens the door for connection, making you more memorable when bid day rolls around.

Here are seven sorority interview questions that you can expect during rush week.

Round one of the recruitment is fast-paced and light-hearted. You’ll meet with members from various houses on campus and answer questions about your background and goals.

Out of all the colleges to attend, you selected this specific campus. Share what drew you to the college. Avoid mentioning parties, drinking and other related activities in this question and throughout all of recruitment. Share something meaningful about the university. You can talk about a program the school offers that you’re interested in, the fact that you have family members that attended or how the location drew you to the school.

This is one of the most common sorority interview questions, and you’ll be answering it throughout the day. When you share your major, add a reason why you selected it. Is there a passion or unique aspect that drove you to pick it? Is there a long-term goal that the major will help you reach? Share something unique and deeper than a one-word answer.

This question is pretty straightforward, but it provides an opportunity to connect with the sister you’re talking to. Rather than simply stating the place you’re from, share what you like about it or how it’s different from the college town. You can also ask the interviewer where she is from to keep the conversation going.

Refrain from giving a generic answer about making connections that last a lifetime. While that might be your goal, you want to stand out. Research the values of the sororities you’re most interested in for discussion ideas. Also, think about something unique about your life and weave it into your answer.

For example, “Throughout high school, I was a member of the soccer team. I made amazing friends, and we always knew we could count on each other. Now that that chapter of my life has ended, I think that a sorority would be an amazing place to cultivate new friendships and join a group of amazing women as we navigate college together.”

A sorority is a sisterhood. Each house is looking for fun and dynamic members. Highlight an exciting or adventurous activity you participated in over the summer. If you worked hard at an internship, share a bit about that experience. If you took a fun vacation, tell an interesting story from your travels.

Well-rounded women make great additions to a sorority. Share an interest you have and a club or organization that you’re thinking about joining. Since leadership positions are available at sororities, this is a great opportunity to ask the interviewer about sorority leadership.

Sorority recruitment is like a job interview, but way more casual, upbeat, and of course, louder.

Occasionally, during your conversations with sorority sisters, there may come a point where there is the *dreaded* lull in the conversation.

And then the sorority sister asks you, “do you have any questions?”

Questions to ask during Philanthropy Round

Philanthropy Round is focused on the sorority chapter’s philanthropic mission or focus, which is the organization or cause the sorority is directly raising money for.

For example, Alpha Xi Delta’s philanthropic partner is Autism Speaks and Tri Sigma’s philanthropic initiative is the March of Dimes.

So during these round(s), focus on questions regarding each sorority’s philanthropy and what events they put on to support their philanthropic partner(s).

And if the sororities at your university participate in Dance Marathon you can ask questions related to that event too.

  • What does your sorority’s philanthropy mean to you?
  • How do you personally get involve with your chapter’s philanthropy?
  • Are there any events that your chapter puts on to promote your philanthropic partner?
  • How can new members get involved with your chapter’s philanthropy?
  • What is your favorite philanthropy event that your chapter puts on or has put on?
  • Does your chapter participate in other sorority chapters’ philanthropy events?
  • How often does your chapter put on philanthropy events?
  • What do you wear to philanthropy events?
  • Are there ways to get involved with your sorority’s philanthropy after graduation?
  • Does your chapter participate in Dance Marathon? If so, how involved is your chapter with Dance Marathon?
