Interview with Coca Cola Recruiter Josh Deason

Video Transcript

Interviewer: Please describe your job title and primary duties.
Coca-Cola Employee: My job title was merchandiser. I went to various stores, big or small, like Walmart, Giant Eagle, Kmarts, etc. and filled their shelves with Coke products. I made sure everything was faced out and everyone was happy.

Interviewer: What was the work environment like?
Coca-Cola Employee: It depended on the store. I wasn’t too much at the plant. I don’t really go out there too much because it’s based in Akron and I live somewhere else. So, it depended. Like, Walmarts are bigger, but their backrooms are crowded. Some stores are smaller, so it’s easier to get to. Acmes are better with that kind of stuff, so it depended.

Interviewer: What was your favorite part about working there?
Coca-Cola Employee: I’d have to say my favorite part was the money. Just getting in, it was decent money. It wasn’t minimum wage or anything.

Interviewer: Please describe a typical day as an employee.
Coca-Cola Employee: Pretty much get up really early because you have to get in before everyone starts shopping. You go to your first store, you don’t even go to the plant. You clock in when you get there. You go in, look for what you need, stock out the shelves, go in the back room. If you have an order, work on that first. Make sure everything looks good before you leave that store, then two, three, four other stores to do. Then, you come back to the first store and make sure all the sale items are still full and stuff like that.

Interviewer: How would you describe the application and interview process?
Coca-Cola Employee: I mean, it was easy, but you kind of had to know someone. I knew someone in there, so it helped. But as far as the interview, they ask the basic questions: “How well does this job fit for you?”, “Why should we pick you?”, “What qualifications do you have?”, and stuff like that.

Interviewer: What should an applicant wear to the interview?
Coca-Cola Employee: I mean, I’ve always thought that for any interview you should take what you think is appropriate, since it’s a worldwide company, and up it one. I think I did dress pants and a dress shirt, so I don’t think khakis and a regular shirt will do it.

Interviewer: What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview?
Coca-Cola Employee: It was pretty generic, like: “What will you do?” scenarios, like management, customers, etc.

Interviewer: What set you apart from other candidates?
Coca-Cola Employee: My interview skills, I think. I was quick on my answers, and I knew the answers. I didn’t know the questions, but I was quick to respond. I didn’t have to sit there and think about it.

Interviewer: What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment?
Coca-Cola Employee: They should be ready to work hard because it wasn’t a cakewalk. It was really early, it was physically demanding. Management can sometimes be very hard to deal with anywhere, so it’s just be ready for all that kind of stuff.
