Sales Engineer Interview

Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Dynatrace (Atlanta, GA) in Feb 2022

Interview

Really positive experience overall. The only downside is that the process lasted pretty long, but at the same time it just takes a while to plan around people’s schedules and prepare for the capstone demo. Everybody I interviewed with was excited about the company, team, product and outlook. They asked some challenging technical and challenging soft-skill questions. They give you the opportunity to ask the necessary questions you want to ask too. The process for me followed the rough outline below.1st – meet and greet phone call with the recruiter to determine fit2nd – zoom call with hiring manager to evaluate background, fit, and conversational in nature.3rd – zoom call with Sales Director to evaluate technical background, sales fit, and overall fit.4th – zoom call with another Director to evaluate fit and background and ask common interview questions 5th – tech panel zoom call with 3 other current team members asking about how you deal with tough technical sales scenarios, areas of technical experience and/or expertise, technologies in general, and overall fit6th – sales capstone demo. come up with a problem, engineer the pieces for it and solve it with Dynatrace, and present it all back to them.

Interview Questions

  • Explain DevOps in your own words. What is your experience with Security? How would you handle a situation where a Sales Rep oversells the product past its technical limitations?

I applied online. I interviewed at Dynatrace

The first round was a Codility test. In the invitation e-mail I got the information that the coding test consists of React questions (multiple choice and coding samples). Instead there were 3 tasks: a javascript algorithm challenge, a React challenge and writing a node.js+express.js API. I had 160 mins to complete all the tasks. I was totally confused, because in the job description there were no need for node.js experience. So I wrote an email that I had no experience in node.js, and the tasks and the written info in the email are not consistent. I received answer only few days later, to just participate at the test, than they would give me a feedback if I pass. But it was too late, because as soon as I started the challenge the timer started to count back. Of course I didnt get any feedback since I have not finished the challenge. It was very unprofessional to advertise a job with specific experiences, than they send me a confusing email and a challenge with extra requirements.1 person found this interview helpful

“When I started working with Java three years ago, the first huge benefit was the fact that the Java syntax was based on C++. At that time, I had a great working knowledge of C++ and my transition to Java was absolutely seamless. The other amazing feature that Ive come to appreciate with Java is how robust the memory management is in exception handling and automatic garbage collection.”
