Talent Acquisition Analyst Interview
I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Eli Lilly and Company (Cork)
Interview
The interview process was actually fine. I met with directors and although the interview was more question answer question answer and extremely rigid, I was still interested. I was given the opportunity at the end to ask questions which I did every time. I moved to the next stage which was 2 back to back interviews with different teams. I loved the first one, it was very exploratory and I felt as though I was able to tell my story, it made me feel so much more comfortable and engaged. After all of this, I did receive the offer for the position. The process from 1st interview to verbal offer was over 3 months. No letter of offer came for weeks, I followed up a number of times. There was consistent let downs and missed calls even when they were scheduled. When I finally received a contract, a full 1 month after I received the verbal offer, the contract was missing some information. For example, my notice period was logged as “XXX weeks”. Which I raised with them and they did not change. They just confirmed it was 4 weeks. There were also other mistakes in the contract that were not addressed.I had absolutely no idea when I was suppose to start, when I received the verbal offer, we agreed the middle of November, then it was the start of December. The delays on everything was a complete break down in communication, I had no medical completed either. My hours changed then after asking this initially, after I reconfirmed at offer stage and followed up a number of times again, I found out they were different. It was the most unorganised and frustrating process. I couldn’t wait any longer at this stage and it raised major red flags for me. I received another offer and informed the TA manager directly that I was withdrawing. Then later that week, I got a call from IT support in the company regarding setting up my IT equipment, as they had not been informed of my decision. THEN, I was contacted by the office to ask why I missed my medical appointment, as they had not been informed either. They had no idea. 2 weeks go by and I have not been contacted regarding the pick up for the IT equipment. Again, I had to contact the office who surprise surprise, hadn’t been made aware of this either. Many of you will read this and think, there is no way all of this happened. I could not make this stuff up. train wreck, and to be honest, a really awful thing to put anybody through at any time but especially in the middle of a pandemic. I felt disappointed for the person that I would have been reporting to, as I found them to be very personable and professional. I feel if the process had been managed better in Ireland, all of this could have been avoided.

Example: “At my previous job, I had a client who was very unhappy with our product. They were threatening to leave us for another supplier because they weren’t getting the results they wanted from our product. I scheduled a meeting with them to discuss their concerns. During the meeting, I learned more about what they needed from our product. I worked with my team to develop a new version of the product that would meet their needs. The client was so happy with the new product that they signed a five-year contract with us.”

Example: “I am very comfortable working in a laboratory setting. In my previous role as a chemist, I worked in a similar environment every day. I was responsible for creating new formulas and testing them out on different patients. It was a rewarding job, but I’m excited to work somewhere where I can use my skills to help people.”
Starting placement as part of my masters, I didn’t know what to expect as there was no placement as part of my undergrad degree. The careers office were very helpful with organising interviews with companies for the MSc Biotechnology students. The interview process was quite daunting and having not been chosen for the first two days of interviews I had begun to lose hope of getting a really good company for placement. However, I was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the candidates that Eli Lilly wanted to interview. There were two interviews on the same day one after the other. The first was a HR based interview with a personnel representative from Eli Lilly. It was very casual and the interviewer made me feel at ease. The second was a technical based interview with someone based in the lab, which involved discussing my previous lab work and my fourth year project. Both interviews gave a real sense of what the company wanted and how they operated, which only added to the hope that I would be successful. The decisions from the interviews came in only a few hours after the interviews took place and I was lucky enough to be one of two students chosen.
All in all, I’ve really enjoyed my time here at Eli Lilly. I’ve learned a lot, met loads of lovely people and I’ve also massively improved both my confidence and also my understanding of how manufacturing sites operate. I’m looking forward to my final month here and am excited to see how well my placement has prepared me for jobs in the future. Choose areas of the website to search Website People Courses
It was a long wait between the interviews in September and the placement beginning in April. For my placement I was based in the TS/MS Large Molecule Lab in Eli Lilly. The lab acts as a support for manufacturing by running studies on small scale equipment to model the large scale manufacturing process. On the day of my induction I was brought to lunch by my supervisor, where I was introduced to the rest of the lab group. Everyone was really welcoming and very easy to chat to and they made you feel at ease on a very nerve-wrecking day. Shortly after starting my placement I realised how much training was involved. There was a lot of computer based training before being allowed to touch anything in the lab and receive your lab access. For my project, I was based in upstream cell culture and had the fantastic opportunity of learning how to run 5L bioreactors, something I would’ve never experienced in college. This project was then used for my thesis project. Everyone was very helpful in providing support for the writing of my thesis and helping with background information.
The people in Eli Lilly are all very approachable and the culture is something I had never seen before. People passing each other and saying hello regardless of if you know the person or not, brought a sense of community to the site and made everyone seem very approachable. The culture in Lilly is very important to the company and you can tell from the Sports and Social events that are organised on site. I was lucky enough to help prepare for and help out on the day of the Family Fun day, which included organising posters, races and activities for the employees’ families. I also took part in the Lilly Champions League which was a football tournament organised by the students and was a great way to meet other students and employees onsite.
