Consultant Engineer Interview

Interview
The final interview consisted of a 2 hour meeting with 4 individuals whom occupy various roles. The questions consisted of mainly behavioral based questions focusing on soft skills. There was also a 10 minute presentation required by the job candidate over a topic of their choice.

Interview process was thorough and multiple levels. They emphasize social skills and having a strong engineering background. Much of the technical learning for the position is done after being hired.

The interview process was lengthy. I think in total it included around nine interviews. There was a presentation portion and a written technical paper, however, as long as you were confident and had communication skills I feel as though they were judged pretty casually.
- Are you willing to relocate/travel? I was asked this a lot and I see why now. There is a large amount of travel outside of the state I currently reside in.
Example: “When dealing with property damage claims, I would first make sure that all necessary documentation was completed by my team members. Then, I would review the claim for accuracy and ensure that all supporting documents were included. After this, I would submit the claim to FM Global for approval. Once approved, I would then send the claim to the client.”
Example: “I would first ask them why they feel like they can find cheaper rates elsewhere, as I want to make sure we’re providing the best possible service at all times. If it turns out that our rates are higher than their expectations, I would explain that we offer more services than just insurance, such as business continuity planning and risk management. This may be something they haven’t considered before, and I’d encourage them to take some time to learn about these additional offerings.”
Example: “In my last position, I was responsible for managing several projects at once. One day, I realized that one of my team members had forgotten to submit a report by its deadline. This caused me to rush through the rest of my work so I could meet all of my deadlines. Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to proofread my work before submitting it, which led to some errors in my reports. My manager noticed these errors and asked me to resubmit the reports with corrections. I learned that rushing through my work can lead to more mistakes, so now I make sure to take care of all of my tasks.”

Their risk management services are also very helpful for my clients because they provide insurance coverage for natural disasters and other unforeseen events.”

Responsibilities for this team include the integration and curation of data from numerous transactional systems, building insightful reports and data visualizations, mining data for business insights, and using statistical and machine learning techniques to predict and influence business outcomes. On the analytics team you will be using data visualization and analysis technologies to help solve business problems and provide insights to business leaders.
